One rule to budget travel: Always plan your trips in advance. Planning ahead helps ensure you get the best price for your trip so you can travel on a budget (and that is what I'm all about, after all 😉 ).

Labor Day weekend 2023 is one week away, so we are cutting it close with planning ahead, but fear not, an affordable travel experience is less than 8 hours away (if you live in Atlanta). This is the perfect time for a quick getaway before summer ends!

Here are 5 of my favorite budget-friendly destinations ideal for a short trip over the long weekend:

  1. Chattanooga, TN 🌉: Just a scenic 2-hour drive from ATL, Chattanooga offers stunning riverfront views, hiking trails galore, and the iconic Lookout Mountain (where my alma mater is). Explore the vibrant arts scene, visit the Tennessee Aquarium, and indulge in local eats. 🍔🎨 #ChattanoogaChill (Check out my Thatch guide for Chattanooga if you need some suggestions on places to visit.)

  2. Savannah, GA 🏖️: Head about 4 hours from ATL to experience the charming cobblestone streets, historic squares, and breathtaking coastline of Savannah. Take a leisurely stroll through Forsyth Park, savor delicious seafood and sweets, and capture that perfect sunset by the river. 🌅🦐 #SavannahEscape

  3. Asheville, NC 🌲: Just 4 hours from ATL and nestled amidst the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains, this vibrant city is a true gem that offers a symphony of experiences, from the tranquil trails that wind through Pisgah National Forest, the many breweries, or the eclectic energy of the River Arts District. Every corner of Asheville whispers tales of creativity and adventure. 🏞️🛍️ #BlueRidgeBliss (Are you a beer lover? Check out the Thatch guide I created for a beer lovers paradise.)

  4. Charleston, SC 🌴: This 5-hour drive takes you to a city that is a captivating blend of old-world charm and vibrant southern hospitality. From its historical elegance to shopping galore, there is something for everyone to do. Don't forget about the beautiful waterfront wonders Charleston has to offer, gardens, and southern cuisine. Charleston wraps you in its embrace like a cherished hug. Share your moments with Charleston– because this city will steal a piece of your heart! 💕🌆 #CharlestonSC

  5. Orlando, FL 🏰: Just a little over 6 hours away, Orlando is the ultimate destination that promises thrills, fun, and unforgettable memories for kids of all ages. 🎢 Not only does Orlando offer amusement parks, but it also has natural beauty, culinary delights, and a vibrant nightlife. So pack your bags, grab your Mickey ears, and let's make memories that will last a lifetime! 📸🎈#OrlandoAdventures #SunshineState (Be sure to check out my blog post on Orlando and my Thatch guide for places to visit in Orlando.)

Let me know where you plan on visiting this Labor Day weekend.

Thanks for sharing some great places. I didn’t realize there were so many and not that far away. I don’t have plans for Labor Day but I will use this next time I want to plan a short getaway
